Since 2011, the CoC (Special Limits) Programme by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) and industry partners has created jobs for over 400 locals. The programme creates a career pathway for Singaporeans and PRs to work on board vessels plying within Special Limits (30 nautical miles off Singapore waters).

Interested jobseekers will start off as a Deck or Engine Cadet, go through a rigorous 15-26 months training, and graduate as a qualified Deck Officer or Marine Engineer.

  • Safe navigation of the ship
  • Oversee and manage cargo operations
  • Watch keeping
  • Shipboard safety
  • Operation and maintenance of all engineering equipment
  • Maintaining the main engine room

General Requirements

  • Singaporean or Permanent Resident
  • Physically fit
  • No colour blindness
  • Good visual acuity of up to 6/60, or less than 300 degree (Deck Officers only)
  • Completed National Service for males

Minimum Qualifications

  • GCE ‘N’ level passes in Math, Science and English/Workplace Literacy Level 5

Training Allowance for the Duration of the Programme

  • $1,200 - $1,400

Starting Salary Upon Completion of the Programme

  • $2,300-3,000 (indicative)
  • $2,300-3,000 (indicative)
