• Ensure vessel designs meet all contractual requirements and specifications. • Provide oversight of the technical review process for the procurement of all main equipment and materials. • Provide oversight of dealings with classification societies, flag states and any relevant regulatory bodies. • Responsible for the successful resolution of technical issues with OEMs, Client, Classification Societies and Flag states. Technical Expertise • Serve as a subject matter expert on classification society rules, flag state regulations, and industry standards. • Lead weight management and control throughout the vessel construction process. • Oversee Inclining Experiments and Lightship Surveys. • Provide expertise on Sea Trials protocols, including vessel loading conditions. • Identify and communicate process and product improvements to enhance vessel performance and quality. Leadership & Team Management • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to all engineering team members. • Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Engineering, and Senior Management to align objectives. • Develop and maintain a strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors, and professional contacts. • Manage high-level contracts, negotiations, and dispute resolution. Interpersonal Management • Communicate effectively by actively listening, clearly conveying information, and providing constructive feedback to all staff levels. • Build trust and rapport through genuine, respectful, and dependable interactions. • Liaise with shipyard personnel and management to ensure product performance aligns with organizational goals. • Maintain and cultivate key external relationships with partners, customers, contractors, suppliers, and official bodies. • Represent the company in negotiations, balancing assertiveness with realistic compromises. Information & Project Management • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of vessel/product specifications and performance, educating internal and external stakeholders as needed. • Ensure awareness of relevant classification and survey body rules impacting quality and performance. • Oversee project documentation, reporting, and information management. • Understand the scope and impact of decisions across departments, projects, and business areas, assisting Project Managers in quantifying implications. Personal & Professional Development • Actively pursue opportunities for professional growth and development. • Demonstrate personal accountability in achieving objectives. • Stay updated on industry best practices and competitor activities to maintain competitive advantage.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Senior Design Engineer or Naval Architect. Proven history working within the Shipbuilding industry. • Formal Naval Architect or Marine Engineering qualifications. • Sound working knowledge of Classification Society Rules and Flag Regulations. • High level negotiation and dispute resolution skills. • Performance and outcome orientation. • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. • Experienced in contractual management. • Strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors and contacts. • Mature and patient. Ideally experienced in working with other cultures. • Commitment to continuous improvement, safety, teamwork and open communications.
