Your Job Scope: Lead the mechanical design, analysis, and integration of subsea vehicles (HAUV/AUV/ROV), including pressure housings, frames, buoyancy, propulsion, and payload/sensor mounts. Own design-for-manufacture, tolerancing, and material selection decisions for subsea and marine environments (corrosion resistance, sealing, pressure ratings). Work closely with electrical/electronic engineers on wiring, connectors, penetrators, and power/signal routing within mechanical assemblies, and troubleshoot integration issues across the mechanical-electrical boundary. Lead structural analysis and validation (FEA, pressure testing, load testing) to certify vehicle designs for operational depth and duty cycles. Manage the full engineering lifecycle: requirements, CAD design, prototyping, testing, field trials, and production handover. Lead and mentor a team of mechanical/mechatronics/electrical engineers, reviewing designs and building technical capability within the team. Support and, where needed, personally conduct pool and open-water trials, including vehicle assembly, pre-dive checks, and post-dive teardown/inspection. Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electro-mechanical failures in the field and drive root-cause corrective actions. Maintain engineering documentation: drawings, BOMs, test reports, and design change records. Collaborate with software/autonomy, production, and operations teams to ensure vehicles meet reliability, maintainability, and manufacturability targets. Support procurement and vendor management for mechanical components, fabrication, and machining partners.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Marine/Offshore Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical or related field. 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, with direct experience designing, building, or maintaining ROVs, AUVs, or other subsea/marine robotic systems. Solid working knowledge of electrical/electronic fundamentals; wiring, connectors, basic circuit troubleshooting, power distribution, sufficient to work hands-on across the mechanical-electrical interface. Proficiency with 3D CAD tools and familiarity with FEA/simulation tools. Practical experience with pressure housing design, sealing (O-rings, potting), and testing subsea equipment. Comfortable working hands-on in a workshop environment: fabrication, assembly, machining coordination, and troubleshooting. Prior experience leading or mentoring a small engineering team. Willingness to travel for field trials and deployments. Strong problem-solving mindset and comfort working in a fast-moving, resource-constrained start-up environment. Good to Have: Experience with underwater sensor integration (sonar, cameras, DVL, IMU). Familiarity with marine/offshore industry standards and certification processes. Experience with composite materials or specialized manufacturing processes for marine applications. Exposure to autonomy/control systems and how they interface with mechanical and electrical subsystems
