Work together with internal stakeholders (Business Development, Quality, Production and Maintenance) and external stakeholders (customers, suppliers and contractors) to understand project requirements & support automation projects. Assist in design of machine control architectures for fully automated manufacturing systems and select appropriate automation components, including PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, safety devices, sensors, industrial networks and electrical control hardware. Design electrical control systems, control panel layouts, wiring schematics and electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or equivalent CAD software. Prepare and maintain project documentation, including: Bill of Materials (BOM) Functional Design Specifications (FDS) I/O Lists Alarm Lists Electrical Drawings Network Architecture FAT/SAT documentation Develop, program, test and validate PLC, HMI and motion control software in accordance with IEC 61131-3 standards to meet machine functional, operational and safety requirements. Assist in implementation of machine safety systems, including safety PLCs, safety relays, emergency stop circuits, guard interlocks and safety functions in compliance with ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC 62061 and IEC 60204-1. Support the integration of industrial robots, vision systems, laser systems, barcode readers, RFID systems, servo systems and third-party equipment into automated production lines. Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks, including EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA. Participate in software testing, machine validation and commissioning of automated equipment and production lines to ensure reliable and safe operation. Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and production qualification activities, ensuring all functional, performance and safety requirements are met. Develop, review and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), Preventive Maintenance (PM) checklists and troubleshooting guides. Perform root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability. Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), machine reliability, production efficiency, product quality and equipment maintainability. Support Industry 4.0 initiatives through machine connectivity, data collection & dashboard development. Ensure compliance with company engineering standards, Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality standards and all relevant international machine safety standards. Keep accurate project documentation and provide regular progress updates to the project lead or manager. Adhere to plant safety, food safety, sanitation standards and following all GMP guidelines.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming, motion control systems, and industrial automation. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus TCP/IP, and OPC UA. Experience in electrical control system design and machine commissioning is preferred. Knowledge of robotics, vision systems, laser systems, or Industry 4.0 applications will be an advantage. Programming skills in Python, C#, C/C++, or similar languages will be an added advantage. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work across functions. Prior experience in manufacturing, plastics injection moulding, or automation projects will be advantageous.
