Job Detail

As an R&D Sputter Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and optimising thin-film magnetic media structures for next-generation hard disk drive (HDD) products. You will lead sputtering activities, drive process improvements, and ensure sputtering equipment and processes consistently deliver high-quality media that meet product and customer requirements. You will play a key role in new media development programmes by designing and evaluating multilayer thin-film structures, transferring new product designs into manufacturing, and improving sputtering machine stability and performance. Working closely with Process Engineering, Materials Science, Evaluation, and Manufacturing teams, you will apply advanced materials engineering principles to support technology development, reliability enhancement, and product innovation. Key Responsibilities Lead a team of Sputter Engineering Assistants and Technicians in executing daily sputtering operations and development activities. Develop and optimise multilayer magnetic thin-film structures to support new HDD media development programmes. Replicate and qualify HDD media structures based on transferred product designs and technology requirements. Monitor sputtering process performance, equipment health, and process stability to ensure consistent product quality. Drive process optimisation initiatives to improve film quality, process capability, yield, and manufacturing robustness. Investigate process excursions and technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions. Support sputtering equipment modification, enhancement, and hardware improvement projects. Conduct experiments, analyse results, and recommend process improvements to support technology development and qualification activities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product introduction, technology transfer, and manufacturing readiness. Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to monitor process capability and improve process performance. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to process development, investigations, and engineering evaluations. Ensure compliance with ISO quality systems, cleanroom requirements, and workplace safety standards. Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
